Challenge
This winter is seeing record snowfall and frigid temperatures causing extremely dangerous conditions for families surviving in tents. Most refugees and displaced people are women, children and elderly who are forced to survive the winter without proper clothing, blankets, food or medication.
Each day more and more people arrive to the Iraqi border where they hope to find safety from the violence. Most Internally Displaced People (IDPs) arrive to the border with nothing more than the clothes on their backs.

What they need
- Proper footwear – most children in camps are seen in flipflops, sandals and summer footwear.
- Coats and Jackets
- Blankets, scarves, sweatshirts and gloves
- Food
- Medication
- Clean water
Solution
Jiyan Foundation for Human Rights is working together with aid workers to provide funding necessary to acquire these resources. All donations collected here will go directly to procuring and transporting clothing, blankets, food, water and other necessities to displaced people seeking refuge in northeast Syria through the winter.
What we’ve done so far
Many of the 138 families that have received direct assistance from this project live in emergency housing. These facilities are converted from public buildings like stadiums and schools and are designed for short-term housing. Many more live in tents ill-equipped for large snowfall. As a result many tents have collapsed on elderly and families. Due to the current conflicts in the region, IDP’s and refugees in these facilities are staying much longer than originally intended.
