Jiyan Foundation Signs MoU with University of Sulaimani

Sulaymaniyah (December 08, 2022) – Jiyan Foundation for Human Rights and University of Sulaimani (UoS) have announced a new strategic partnership to facilitate cooperation and long-term support. The agreement in the form of a Memorandum of Understanding commits Jiyan Foundation to providing psychological support to the staff and students of the University of Sulaimani, awareness-raising seminars and workshops on the topics of mental health, and provide an open internship program for students of UoS.

The University of Sulaimani will support Jiyan Foundation by providing technology experts and staff in support of monitoring and supervising any project undertaken by Jiyan Foundation within the borders of the Sulaimani Government.
In addition, both parties agree to the exchange of staff and faculty for the purposes of scientific cooperation in all fields of science common between the two parties.

Through this new strategic partnership Jiyan Foundation for Human Rights intends to provide mental health treatment and awareness to more people in the region and further develop our ongoing humanitarian projects.

About the University of Sulaimani
University of Sulaimani (UoS) was first established in 1968, the main campus is located in the city of Sulaimani in Kurdistan of Iraq. In the beginning there were only three colleges but during the years that followed, the number of the colleges increased dramatically as the result of growing demands of higher education in the country.

In 1981, the former Iraqi regime transferred this academic establishment to the city of Erbil (Hawler) and the name was changed to become (University of Salahaddin). In 1992 University of Sulaimani was reestablished by tremendous efforts and enthusiasm of many Kurdish intellectuals and academics with the people of Sulaimani and was officially reopened on 14th of November. Today University of Sulaimani includes (19) Colleges, students obtain BSc and BA degrees in various fields of study.

Our work supports nine treatment centers, a clinic for Yazidi women and families, a Healing Garden, and mobile teams helping survivors in 11 refugee and IDP camps in nine regions throughout Kurdistan-Iraq, Iraq, and Syria. Since 2005 these programs have provided support to over 100,000 people.
