Jiyan Foundation Statement on Violence in Sinjar Province

Erbil (May 4, 2022) – Jiyan Foundation for Human Rights Chairman and Founder Salah Ahmad released the below statement following days of military violence in the province of Sinjar. 

“The beginning of this week which was meant to be celebrated by millions of people throughout the region has been marred by violence and the displacement of thousands of vulnerable people.

“Each time diplomacy is rejected in favor of violence the international community looks to the region in disbelief as innocent women, children and vulnerable groups are forced again to leave their homes.

“Jiyan Foundation for Human Rights has worked for two decades with refugees, internally displaced people and survivors of war violence providing mental health treatment and other relief services. Years of good work by like-minded organizations working to rebuild lives is quickly disregarded.”

Jiyan Foundation calls on all stakeholders to prioritize the physical and mental health of vulnerable groups and provide assistance to house, feed and secure civilians at this time of unnecessary violence.
