Our therapeutic Healing Garden for survivors of trauma in Chamchamal has won the iF Social Impact Prize 2020 and the national Energy Globe Award Iraq 2020 for Preservation of Resources and Sustainable Planning in a Post-Conflict Setting!
We are the Jiyan Foundation for Human Rights
We promote the mental well-being, physical rehabilitation, and social reintegration of survivors and their families by providing them with free-of-charge psychotherapeutic support, medical treatment, and socio-legal counseling. In addition, we seek to protect survivors of past human rights violations and prevent future attacks of violence through political advocacy, human rights education, and public awareness-raising programs.
In 2005, we started our activities in the multi-ethnic city of Kirkuk, where we opened the first rehabilitation clinic for victims of torture in Iraq.
Today we run nine therapeutic treatment centers, a healing garden, and an inpatient clinic for Yezidi women and children. Our mobile teams work in refugee and displacement camps in remote areas throughout northern Iraq and Syria where we’ve treated over 60,000 medical cases and more than 35,000 survivors of torture, trauma, and violence have received mental health services.
